The Twitter account of Rahul Gandhi, the vice-president of Congress, India's opposition party, was hacked on Wednesday evening and misused to post obscentities.

The leader's office confirmed the breach of privacy and said efforts were being made to rectify the problem.

The hacker also changed the name of the verified twitter handle and posted profanities.

The offensive tweets were soon deleted, but the hacker's access to the Twitter account has not been revoked so far.

Congress media in charge Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, "Such lowly tactics will never drown the sane voice of reason nor deter Rahul Gandhi from raising."
