Imran Khan to contest 2018 general elections from Karachi

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan on Monday announced he would contest the upcoming general election from Karachi.

While addressing a gathering in city’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, Khan said Karachi was the city people would come to spend their vacations But over the years it has been abandoned by political parties.

He said that Karachi used to run the entire system of the country, adding that the division caused Karachi a lot of damage. 

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had the highest rate of terrorism but today it was a peaceful province.

"Mafias prevail in this city. The tanker mafia for example - citizens do not have access to water because of it... The Rangers have been posted in the city because [political parties have] ruined the police," Khan said.

The PTI chief further stressed the need to elect a mayor who has administrative powers and financial resources to deal with the challenges being faced by the city. 

He promised that if he came to power, his party would bring in a directly elected mayor who would solve Karachi's problems with his team of experts.
