'Veere Di Wedding' banned in Pakistan over vulgar dialogues and obscene scenes

The much-awaited film Veere Di Wedding, just a day before its worldwide release on June 1, has now been banned by The Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) from releasing in Pakistan owing to vulgar language and objectionable sexual dialogues. 

All members of the board came to this decision unanimously as the film’s distributors also withdrew their application to release it in Pakistan after witnessing its questionable content.

Danyal Gilani, Chairman, Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC), told IANS via social media, “Members of the CBFC unanimously decided to not allow the film for public exhibition in the cinemas as its content flouts the Censorship of Film Code 1980.” The movie was screened for the CBFC in Pakistan on Tuesday night. 

A senior member of the Distribution Club mentioned that before the screening, the board was unaware of the indecent substance within the film. “Thus, we withdrew our applications to distribute,” he said. He added, “We think the Sindh board was right to clear the film after making cuts. But we also agree with CBFC’s decision.”

The film is about four friends and their take on friendship in a modern society of today. It stars Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Anil Kapoor among others.
