Due to policies of BJP, Indo-Pak negotiations haven't been taking place: Pak foreign minister Qureshi

Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi today said today that India is "trying its best" that the negotiations don't take place between the two countries.

Accusing India of opposing third-party intervention in J&K, Qureshi said: "There haven't been any talks since 2015 and India is shying away from it."

Last week while talking to an audience in Washington Quereshi had requested US to facilitate talks with India but it was rejected by the Trump administration. Qureshi said the US wanted India and Pakistan to engage bilaterally, however, the Pakistan foreign minister said the two countries had not engaged bilaterally. The new government of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he claimed, is not shy of engaging.

He told the Washinton audience that it was "unfortunate" that the two countries were not engaging in talks.

"Due to the policies of BJP, India-Pak negotiations haven't been taking place," the Pakistan foreign minister asserted.

Everybody during the SAARC ministerial meet had appreciated Pakistan's efforts to talk to India, he told reporters outside the Pakistan Senate today.

The Pakistan foreign minister had told the SAARC ministerial panel on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that the attitude of "one country" was hampering the spirit of the forum. 

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had attended the same meeting but left early, ostensibly to avoid meeting the Pakistan foreign minister, reports said later.
