Coronavirus: Nepal records highest single day spike with 288 new cases

Nepal has reported 288 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The current tally stands at 2,099, as per health ministry.

Eight people in the country have succumbed to the infectious virus. 

Around 6.3 million cases of the new coronavirus have been officially declared in the world, more than two-thirds of them in Europe and the United States, according to a tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

On Tuesday, the cases stood at  6,274,136, according to Johns Hopkins University. So far, the virus has killed 375,711 people worldwide. Coronavirus cases, first reported in China in December last year, peaked in mid-March. The virus is currently affecting more than 200 countries around the world.

The United States has recorded the most deaths of any country, with 105,160, ahead of Britain with 39,045, Italy with 33,475, Brazil with 29,937 and France at 28,833.
