The death toll due to coronavirus in Pakistan crossed over 700 fatalities as Sindh and Punjab continued to report the highest number of cases.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen to over 32,000 in the country.
Sindh reported 18 deaths in one-day with the total number of cases climbing to over 12,600 even as authorities said there are over 10,000 patients being treated for the virus. Despite large number of cases, authorities said they would be reopening schools next month.
Punjab province which is among the worst-hit areas in Pakistan with the virus recorded 14 deaths in the past 24 hours with the death toll climbing to 705 in the area. There were 300 new virus cases detected in the region today. Punjab has over 11,8600 cases of the virus.
In Balochistan over 2,000 people have been affected with coronavirus over 4,000 cases reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The country's capital Islamabad has 716 cases of the virus
As the country battles the virus, foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that recession may hit the economy due to the virus with the global economy set to contract even though he asserted that the "lockdown is a temporary solution".
As the number of cases increased, the government said 343 more people recovered from the virus with the total number of recoveries at over 8,550.
