Coronavirus cases expected to peak by end of July, August: Pakistan PM Imran Khan

As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said "our cases are expected to peak by the end of July or August", adding that "then the transmission will reduce."

"We already know that the virus will spread, the trend that our experts have observed is that it spreads, then peaks and then the curve flattens. And the purpose behind flattening the curve is to reduce pressure on hospitals," the Pakistan Prime Minister told in an address.

Pakistan has seen a spurt in coronavirus cases with over 5,000 cases in one day on Monday with the number of infection cases rising to over 105,900. The COVID-19 has claimed over 2,000 lives in the country.

Sindh and Punjab have been the hardest hit regions due to COVID1-19 accounting for over 78,000 cases. In the nation's capital Islamabad over 5,000 cases have been detected.

The Pakistan Prime Minister asserted that his government can "manage the pandemic" while asking the people to "take precautions for your loved ones". He reassured citizens that the government was taking "precautionary measures"

On Monday, former Pakistan Prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi tested positive for COVID-19, even as several other Pakistan lawmakers have been detected with the virus including PPP MPA Sharjeel Memon, PML-N leader Mian Naveed Ali ANP’s Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani and Sindh governor Imran Ismail.
