Bulandshahr gang rape: Three accused remanded in judicial custody for 14 days

Follow UsA 35-year-old woman and her daughter were raped by a gang of robbers on the highway on Friday night. The duo were pulled out of their car by the group at gun point and raped in a field in Bulandshahr district, just 65 kilometres from the national capital New Delhi.
Police arrested the three accused and produced them before a fast track court in Bulandshahr.
"They (accused) have been sent to 14 days judicial custody. The three accused, Raisuddin, Shahwaiz and Jabar Singh have been sent to prison. They are booked under 395, 397, 376 D, 342 IPC and four POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) acts," said Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC), Navneet Sharma.
Police detained 15 suspects earlier and is on the lookout for three other accused in the case. Several senior police officers were transferred following the incident.
The family was travelling to Shahjahanpur from Ghaziabad, en route to a funeral, when their car was hit by a blunt object. As the vehicle stopped, the gang members pounced on them and looted their valuables before raping the women.
Sexual violence against women is a highly sensitive issue in India, where the fatal gang-rape of a student on a bus in New Delhi in 2012 sparked deep soul-searching about entrenched violence against women and the failure of authorities to protect them.
