A team of leaders from India's ruling BJP were on Saturday stopped from entering West Bengal's Dhulagarh village, where communal clashes erupted last week.

The Howrah (rural) district police officials put up barricades to prevent the BJP leaders and supporters from entering the violence-hit area of Dhulagarh situated on the outskirts of West Bengal capital Kolkata.

"Section 144 has been imposed in the area, hence outsiders are not being allowed to enter the area. This is to prevent any law and order situation in the area. Currently, the situation has retuned to normalcy and is peaceful. However, though the locals are allowed to enter their homes inside the village," said a senior polie official.

The BJP team comprised two MPs Dr Satyapal Singh and Jagdambika Pal. The central team was accompanied by BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and national secretary Rahul Sinha to take stock of the situation and meet the victims of communal clashes.
