Baramulla militant attack: One security personnel killed, Indian Army says situation under control

At least six militants attacked two an Indian army and Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night, killing one security personnel and wounding another.

The situation, following an intense gun battle, however, is under control, the Indian army's northern command tweeted.

This attack comes about two weeks after at least 19 Indian soldiers were killed in the Uri terror attack.

According to reports, a gun battle erupted at the 46 Rashtriya Rifles camp at around 10:30 pm after the militants attacked. The Rashtriya Rifles is a branch of the Indian Army.

Two of the militants were killed, an interior ministry spokesman said. The injured BSF soldier is reported to be out of danger.

The raid comes as tensions continue to rise between India and Pakistan following the Uri attack and, 10 days later, surgical strikes by India on terror launchpads in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

PTI said personnel of the BSF, which is under the operational command of the army in the area, share living quarters with the soldiers.

The BSF director general KK Sharma has briefed interior minister Rajnath Singh about the incident.
