Army Chief Gen Rawat meets Sri Lankan President, discusses military cooperation

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Friday, on his maiden trip to Sri Lanka, called on Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and discussed bilateral and defence relations. 

According to reports, Gen Rawat is in the island country for a week-long visit. Rawat received an invitation from his Sri Lankan counterpart Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

The visit will aim at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries and taking it to the "next level".

As per reports, Gen Rawat and Sirisena discussed the importance of the well established bilateral relations between the two nations. Earlier on Monday, Rawat also met Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
