Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi hold joint road show in Agra

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav held a joint roadshow in Agra on Friday.

Both leaders were hosted in an open top bus to showcase a united front to the opposition BJP and BSP in the state which is set to go the polls on 11th February. The road show which lasted for less than an hour was greeted by a flood of Samajwadi Party and Congress supporters.  

The two leaders had earlier held a joint interaction on January 29 declaring their objective to "defeat the fascist forces" referring to the BJP and promising to usher in a "storm of development". Rahul Gandhi had said that he shared both a personal and political relationship with the Uttar Pradesh chief minister and their coming together was akin to the "meeting of the Ganga and Yamuna at the Sangam." Chief minister Akhilesh, pronounced that they were "two wheels of the cycle."

The leaders also released the joint campaign slogan 'UP koh yeh saath pasand hai' (UP relishes this alliance). Uttar Pradesh will be voting for a new state assembly in a seven-phase election between February 11 and March 8.

Out of the 403 assembly seats, the Congress will be contesting in 105 seats and the Samajwadi Party will field its candidates in rest of the 298 seats.
