At least 48 were killed and 67 injured in a suicide bombing outside Mawoud Academy in Dasht-e-Barchi, Afghanistan, TOLO News reported.

Reports of an explosion were received in Dasht-e-Barchi, west of Kabul city, said spokesman of Kabul police chief.

A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in front of an educational centre in a major Shi'ite area in the west of the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, officials said.

The investigation of the explosion is in the process, more details are awaited.

"There are casualties, unfortunately. The nature of the explosion is not known yet," police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said. Afghanistan's Interior Ministry also confirmed the blast and fears casualties.

Another Taliban attack on a military outpost in Afghanistan's northern province of Baghlan on Wednesday killed up to 44 Afghan police and soldiers, provincial officials said, as the insurgents kept up pressure on government forces.

The attack came as the central city of Ghazni struggles to recover from five days of intense fighting where the insurgents have been pressuring the local security forces.
