Afghanistan's capital city Kabul was jolted by an explosion earlier today. An explosion went off in a residential neighbourhood.

According to reports, the blast was caused by an explosive that was placed near a park. One person has been reported wounded so far.

Afghanistan has been hit by a series of attacks since the beginning of the year. Hundreds of civilians lost their lives in attacks that targetted Kabul this year.

Last week, gunmen mounted coordinated attacks in Kabul and battled security forces for hours in the main commercial area after setting off three large explosions.

The latest incidents of violence and unrest in the country have put heavy pressure on the Western-backed government of President Ashraf Ghani.
