Mahmud Ali Durrani, the former Pakistan National Security Advisor, speaking at a security conference in Delhi admitted that a terrorist group based in Pakistan carried out the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Pakistan government has always maintained the attacks were carried out by "non-state actors" and it had no role in it.

India has accused Pakistan's LeT leader Hafiz Saeed of planning and carrying out the attacks and had lodged a case against him in 2008.

"I hate to admit that the 26/11 Mumbai attack carried out by a terror group in Pakistan is a classic trans-border terrorist event," Mahmud Ali Durrani said.

Mahmud Ali Durrani was the NSA when ten Pakistani terrorists sailed into Mumbai on November 26, 2008 and killed 166 people including Indians and foreigners.

Nine terrorists were killed by Indian commandos during the attacks, Indian police captured one of them - Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani national who was found guilty of participating in the attacks by an Indian court and hanged in India in 2012.
