Yearender 2020: From Sushant Singh Rajput to Irrfan Khan; Indian stars we lost this year

Yearender 2020: This year has not been kind to cinema and its artists. From Sushant Singh Rajput, Irrfan Khan to Rishi Kapoor, entertainment world lost some of its gems and left a void in the industry. 

Here is a look back at all the stars who passed away in 2020.

Irrfan Khan

Actor par excellence Irrfan Khan died at the age of 53 on 29 April 2020, due to a colon infection. The actor had been battling neuroendocrine tumour for several years.

Irrfan is one of the first Indian actors to have dabbled in a career in Hollywood. He starred in notable films like 'The Amazing Spider-Man', 'Life Of Pi', 'Slumdog Millionaire' and many more. He had made his debut in films in Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay' in 1988.

Rishi Kapoor

Chintu of Bollywood Rishi Kapoor passed away at the age of 67, the actor was suffering from cancer. The actor leaves behind a huge repertoire of films spanning over a five decades. He proved he is one of the most charming, effervescent actors of Indian cinema.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Sushant Singh Rajput's death is one of the most shocking news of the year 2020. The actor was found hanging at his Mumbai residence on June 14.

In a short span of time, Sushant Singh Rajput had managed to carve a niche in Bollywood. He started his acting career with a television show which went on to become a massive hit and subsequently made his debut in films in 2013.

Wajid Khan

Bollywood music composer Wajid Khan of the duo Sajid-Wajid died at 42. He died in a Mumbai city hospital of complications arising from a kidney infection. Belting out some good music over the years, the duo is best known for their work with Salman Khan in his films like ‘Wanted’, ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

Saroj Khan

Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan died at the age of 72 in Mumbai of cardiac arrest. Masterji of Bollywood choreographed more than 2,000 songs in her decade long career. From Shah Rukh Khan iconic step to Madhuri Dixit 'Ek do teen' she gave some iconic steps in the entertainment industry.

Basu Chatterjee

The legendary filmmaker Basu Chatterjee passed away at 93 owing to age-related ailments. Chatterjee is best known for films like 'Rajnigandha', 'Chitchor', 'Khatta Meetha', 'Priyatama', 'Shaukeen' and 'Chameli Ki Shaadi'. His last directorial was the 1997 film, 'Gudgudee'.

Pandit Jasraj

Legendary vocalist Pandit Jasraj died at the age of 90. Jasraj was a pioneering artist. Born in 1930 in Haryana, the celebrated classical singer presented the Mewati Gharana to global music.

Soumitra Chatterjee

Legendary Bangali actor Soumitra Chatterjee died at the age of 85 due to COVID-19 complications. He is one of the most celebrated Bengali actors and is best known for his collaboration with Oscar-winner Satyajit Ray with whom he worked in fourteen films.

Chatterjee was launched in films by the veteran filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The actor had frequently collaborated with the auteur in his initial years. A very well known actor in Bengali films, he has been honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award- the highest honour in Indian cinema.

Asif Basra

Bollywood actor Asif Basra died by suicide at his home in McLodganj in Dharamshala. Basra appeared in various films like Sushant Singh Rajput's 'Kai Po Che', Rani Mukerji's 'Hichiki', Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish 3', and Saif Ali Khan's 'Kaalakaandi'.
