With spring upon Kashmir, Asia's largest tulip garden opens for tourists
Its spring in Kashmir — a season the rest of the country does not see — and the valley is dotted with colourful flowers.

About 12 lakh tulips have been planted in the picturesque garden with 51 different varieties spread over an area of about 15 hectares.

Every year thousands of tourists stream through the garden to enjoy the colourful tulip flowers. This tulip bloom also marks the beginning of new season for the tourism sector which has otherwise been hit badly by the terrorism.

'I think people should visit Kashmir in April when this garden is open. I really like it here, its pleasant and tulips are beautiful. I feel this is the best place to click pictures,' said Juhi, a tourist from Mumbai.

About 40 thousand hyacinth tulip bulbs have been imported from different countries to give this garden a fresh look. The garden is surrounded by the giant mountains with the famous Dal lake in the background.

"There is a beautiful aroma all around and the environment is colourful. We are enjoying here without any fear. People should come and visit Kashmir, once in their lifetime," said Doctor Moin Azizi, a tourist from Bangalore, who has come with his family to Kashmir.

The footfall of visitors in the first few days has been impressive and is expected to grow with more tulip bloom in the coming days. Also known as Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, it is ranked fourth among the world’s biggest tulip gardens by the World Tulip Society.
