Hibernate in our cosy beds and comfy quilts

So everybody knows we are evolved from animals thus we are born with some natural animal instincts and during winters our natural instincts start to kick in and its proof is our constant avoidance of social events and choosing Netflix and hot chocolate instead.

Our body still hibernate like bears with little difference, we hibernate in our cosy beds and comfy quilts, and this instinctive tendency to hibernate from the cold is one possible reason for gaining weight in winter.

Human metabolism increases during winters

The cooler air and shorter days also trigger changes in behaviours and hormones which encourage fat storage.

Our metabolisms increase in winter in order to burn more energy to stabilise our body temperature and stay warm, which means we require more food for the body's extra energy demands

More sleep during winters

Another reason is as the sun starts to set early and our eyes start to experience more darkness, it makes our mind starts to think that it is time to sleep.

Our want of sleeping more increases during the colder months even though our need for sleep to function properly for the day, doesn’t actually increase.

These were few major reasons for winter fat. Some of the minor reasons affecting the body weight are being too cosy and snacking mindlessly in front of your laptop while binge-watching TV series.

EXERCISE

“EXERCISE” I know it is the most obvious thing to say on topic of losing weight, but it is the most crucial thing, as in winters our physical activity rate gets reduced; taking half an hour from your daily routine and investing in little stretching is totally worth it.

But it’s not only just about being exercise active, but socially active is also important; getting up off the couch, bracing the cold and keep plans with friends and family.

Avoid white products like rice, sugar, sweets basically high glycemic carbs that increase from your insulin leading to make you feel more hungry, instead, treat your hunger with fibre-rich food like whole fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans.

They can keep you away from feeling unnecessary hungry and stimulate the appetite-controlling hormone leptin.

And the last trick of losing fat is to not take stress about it!

So what you've gained little weight, don't worry about it, be gentle to yourself and your body and slowly ease back into it.
