A grand opposition rally was organised by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata in order to showcase opposition strength ahead of general election in May

The Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) and Congress are set to enter an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls starting April 11.

The two parties, which are part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls jointly in Jammu and Kashmir but could not win a single seat in the state.

Deve Gowda said with the general elections close at hand, the opposition parties should forget their differences and come together to fight the BJP unitedly.

The Janata Dal (Secular) leader said a small group of senior leaders should be formed to decide on a roadmap on how they will ensure good governance.

Chandrababu Naidu said BJP has betrayed the people of the country by reneging on all the promises it had made before the 2014 general elections.

Andhra Chief Minister said the BJP has failed on its promises of a corruption-free government, to bring back black money from foreign shores and double farmers' income, among several other assurances.

Akhilesh Yadav said the coming together of the SP and the BSP has led to a wave of happiness in the country and left a worried BJP to hold meeting after meeting to devise a strategy to win even one seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Mishra said the BSP-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh has started the process of uprooting the 'anti-Dalit' and 'anti-Minority' NDA government at the Centre.

He stated that this 'successful' rally has put its stamp that in order to keep safe Baba Saheb Ambedkar's constitution it is necessary to defeat the BJP government.
