US transforms famous spots into makeshift hospitals as coronavirus death toll tops 4,000

US is transforming its several famous spots into emergency make-shift hospitals to keep a check on the rising death toll of the coronavirus cases as death toll has surged to 4,000 along with more than 1,89,000 confirmed cases.

With around 14 tents, 68 beds and 10 ventilators the Samaritan’s Purse Emergency Field Hospital has been set up in Manhattan's iconic park, with COVID-19 patients expected to start arriving soon.

 

 

The New York stadium complex that hosts the annual US Open tennis tournament every summer will be used as a makeshift hospital to bolster efforts to care for patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Detroit Convention Center, formerly known as Cobo Center, will be turned into a 900-bed hospital in response to the coronavirus according to an announcement made by the federal government. The Convention Center usually hosts auoto expos in US. But they have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

McCormick Place will be turned into a makeshift hospital to treat  about 3,000 COVID-19 patients by approximately April 24 according to the head of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Miami-Dade’s fairgrounds in Westchester will soon be a makeshift hospital, as medical facilities across the area have become overwhelmed with patients needing treatment for the novel coronavirus.

Miami-Dade's Office of Emergency Management asked to use the fairgrounds for a  250-bed temporary hospital.
