'Sooryavanshi' enters Rs 100 cr club, a look at Rohit Shetty's other blockbuster hits

Rohit Shetty’s latest directorial 'Sooryavanshi' has been the talk of the town. Akshay Kumar starrer movie crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the box office amid the pandemic and has become Shetty's 9th movie to enter the Rs 100 cr club.

After the big success of his cop movie, here's a look at Rohit Shetty's other blockbuster hits.

Sooryavanshi

Rohit Shetty third film in his cop franchise- 'Sooryavanshi' is unstoppable and has crossed the ₹100 crore mark in just a week after opening in theatres this Diwali.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the film's box office report, he wrote: "Sooryavanshi packs a STRONG NUMBER on Day 6... Good word of mouth + lack of major #Hindi film this Friday gives it a chance to score in Week 2... Fri 26.29 crore, Sat 23.85 crore, Sun 26.94 crore, Mon 14.51 crore, Tue 11.22 crore, Wed 9.55 crore. Total: ₹ 112.36 crore. #India business."

Simmba

In 2018, Rohit Shetty released the third movie of his cop's universe 'Simmba' starring Ranveer Singh, who also made a cameo in 'Sooryavanshi'. Ranveer starrer emerged as a super hit movie ruling over the box office and become the highest-earning opening film as of 2018 and went on to gross about Rs 400 crore worldwide.

Chennai Express

Rohit Shetty's 2013 movie 'Chennai Express' was declared a super-duper hit at the box office. The movie starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, broke several box office records in India and abroad, becoming the quickest film to collect ₹1 billion (US$13 million) net domestically.

The film surpassed '3 Idiots' to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film worldwide at that point. It is among the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time worldwide.

Dilwale

Rohit Shetty star-studded movie 'Diwale' which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in lead, was released on Diwali 2015 weekend and entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club by collecting Rs. 102.65 crore in the first week. ‘Dilwale’ faced stiff competition from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Bajirao Mastani' starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. 

The movie grossed over ₹145 crore net domestically, and more than ₹376.85 crores globally.

Comedy - Golmaal

Rohit Shetty's Golmaal world is incomplete without Ajay. Coming out of his action-hero image, Ajay proved that he can pull off any role with ease. 

In the franchise, which revolves around a group of silly boys, Ajay plays the role of Gopal, the leader of the group.

Bol Bachchan

Rohit Shetty 2012 movie 'Bol Bachchan' was loosely based on the 1979 Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic 'Gol Maal'. The movie earned over ₹1 billion (US$13 million) net from domestic markets and more than ₹235 crores (US$31 million) worldwide.

Action - Singham

Rohit Shetty kicked off his cop universe with Ajay Devgn. With Singham, Devgn made a return to the action genre as he played the role of tough cop Bajirao Singham. In the film, Devgn impressed the audience with his high-octane action, car chase sequence, and, at last, his outstanding performance.

The first film of the franchise was released in 2011 and was a massive hit.

The movie is streaming on Netflix.

Singham

The first movie of Rohit Shetty cop universe 'Singham' that introduced Ajay Devgn as a station house officer turned police inspector Bajirao Singham. The film earned ₹876 million in India on the first day and a worldwide total of ₹1.57 billion against a ₹410 million budget, becoming a box-office blockbuster.

Golmaal 3

'Golmaal 3', the third film of his comedy series, was released in the year 2010 and received mixed reviews with good box office numbers. The movie collected Rs 169 cr at the box office.
