Rahul Dravid likely to replace Ravi Shastri: A look at his achievements as a coach

The legendary Rahul Dravid is reportedly set to take over as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team and is likely to be offered a two-year contract till the 2023 World Cup. He will be replacing current head coach Ravi Shastri post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021. Here is a look at Dravid's achievements as a coach.

Rahul Dravid officially begun his coaching journey in the IPL when he first took over as a mentor for Rajasthan Royals in 2014. RR is a franchise known for backing youngsters and Dravid worked with quite a few during his time at the franchise. RR missed out on the playoffs by barest of margins in 2014 but finished 3rd in the following season under Dravid's guidance.

Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian U-19 team in 2016 while he was also mentoring Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Under Dravid, Ishan Kishan-led India U-19 side finished runners-up at the World Cup as they went down against West Indies in the final. A number of youngsters like Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar emerged from the tournament.

Two years after bagging a runners-up finish at the U-19 World Cup in 2016, Dravid guided the Prithvi Shaw-led side to a title triumph in 2018. The India legend had to choose between his role as a mentor with Delhi Capitals in IPL or coaching the India U-19 team due to a conflict of interest. He chose to continue as the India U-19 head coach and helped Shaw & Co. return home with the trophy. The likes of Shubman Gill, Shaw, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and others emerged from the tournament.

Rahul Dravid didn't stop after coaching the India U-19 teams and coached the India A team as well. He guided the team on their tour of England and New Zealand among others while helping a number of youngsters in improving their skills and playing for the senior team later. The likes of Mayank Agarwal, Deepak Chahar and Sanju Samson among others have often praised Dravid for his impact on their careers.

Rahul Dravid took over as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru in 2019. He has nurtured a number of youngsters at the NCA and is also reponsible for the overall development of the players at the BCCI facility.

Dravid also travelled with the Indian team to Sri Lanka for their limited-overs tour as the stand-in head coach earlier this year. In the absence of head coach Ravi Shastri, he coached the Shikhar Dhawan-led side.
