Oscar Awards 2022: And the nominees are...

The nominations for Oscar Awards 2022 were announced on Tuesday morning. 'Power Of The Dog' and 'Dune' have earned the maximum nods this year, followed by 'King Richard', 'West Side Story' and 'Licorice Pizza'. Meet the nominees in the four major categories of the awards. 

Best Picture

Continuing the tradition of last few years, 10 films made it to the Best Picture nomination list. These includes favourites like 'The Power Of The Dog', 'West Side Story' and 'Dune' along with 'Belfast', 'Nightmare Alley' and 'CODA'. Festival favourite Japanese drama 'Drive My Car' too has made it to the list. The nominees in Best Picture category are: 'Belfast', 'CODA', 'Don't Look Up', 'Drive My Car', 'Dune', 'King Richard', 'Licorice Pizza', 'Nightmare Alley', 'The Power Of The Dog' and 'West Side Story'.

Best Director

Steven Spielberg has clenched a spot in Best Director category for his film 'West Side Story'- a remake of 1960s classic. Other nominees included Kenneth Branagh for 'Belfast', Jane Campion for 'The Power Of The Dog', Paul Thomas Anderson for 'Licorice Pizza' and Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi, for 'Drive My Car'.

Best Actor

The veteran Denzel Washington pulled a surprise as he earned a nod for his performance in 'The Tragedy of Macbeth'.  Other nominees include Javier Bardem for 'Being The Ricardos', crowd favourites Benedict Cumberbatch for 'The Power Of The Dog' and Andrew Garfield for 'Tick Tick Boom' along with Will Smith for 'King Richard'.

Best Actress

Kristen Stewart became the third openly LGBTQ actress in Oscar history to earn a nomination in the Best Actress category for playing Lady Diana in 'Spencer'. Other nominees include Jessica Chastain for 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye', Olivia Colman for 'The Lost Daughter', Penelope Cruz for 'Parallel Mothers' and Nicole Kidman for 'Being The Ricardos'.

Best Supporting Actor

The veteran JK Simmons leads the nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category along with Ciaran Hinds for 'Belfast' and Troy Kotsur for 'CODA'. 'The Power of the Dog' gets two nods in this category as actors Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee both have been nominated for their performance in the film.

Best Supporting Actress

The stunning performance of Jessie Buckley in the 'The Lost Daughter' earned her a spot in the Best Supporting Actress category this year along with other fitting contenders like Ariana DeBose for 'West Side Story', Jude Dench for 'Belfast', Kirsten Dunst for 'The Power of the Dog', and Aunjanue Ellis for 'King Richard'.
