Statue of Unity, world's tallest, inaugurated by PM. Here are the other 'high-flyers'

Double the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Sardar Patel statue near the Narmada Dam in Gujarat is not only the tallest in the world but also the one to be completed in the shortest time.

The Statue of Unity

The Statue of Unity, a memorial to Sardar Patel, situated on an islet in Gujarat and, at 182 metres, is touted as the world's tallest statue. 

It was built within three-and-a-half years by an army of over 3,000 workers, including 300 engineers from infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

Spring Temple Buddha

The Spring Temple Buddha is located in the Zhaocun township of Lushan County, Henan, China, built from 1997 to 2008. 

 At 128 metres (420 ft), including a 25 metres (82 ft) lotus throne, it is the second tallest statue in the world after the Statue of Unity, Gujarat, India.

Laykyun Setkyar

The Laykyun Sekkya Buddha is, as of 2016, one of the top three tallest statues in the world at 116 metres (381 ft) and is located the village of Khatakan Taung, near Monywa, Myanmar.

Construction began in 1996 and it was completed on 21 February 2008.

Ushiku Daibutsu

Ushiku Daibutsu statue located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, stands a total of 120 metres (390 ft) tall, including the 10 m (33 ft) base and 10m lotus platform. 

It was completed in 1993, and held the record for the tallest statue from 1993–2002. As of 2018, it is one of the top four tallest statues in the world.

Guanyin of Nanshan

The Guanyin of Nanshan is a 108-metre (354 ft) statue of the bodhisattva Guanyin, sited on the south coast of China's island province Hainan near the Nanshan Temple of Sanya.

The statue took six years to build and was enshrined on April 24, 2005.
