The surrogate mother

Tender play
Steve spotted this mother polar bear and her two cubs in March after 10 days of searching for them. They had recently left their den in Wapusk National Park, Canada so their mother could feed and the cubs could play.

Training session
Christmann came across this penguin couple in Atka Bay, Antarctica, seemingly with an egg. Upon closer inspection he discovered the egg was a snowball! This is possibly the first time a practice session of transferring eggs between penguin couples ever been witnessed and documented.

Big ears
Maleev was on a summer expedition to the Gobi Desert when he happened upon a long-eared jerboa. Though the nocturnal animal uses the large ears to dispel heat, it is probably tired of hearing everything that goes on in the Gobi desert.
