Miss World Asia 2019: Meet India's Suman Rao who made the nation proud at world forum

Carrying the hopes of millions of Indians, Suman  Ratan Rao, who represented India at the Miss World 2019 won the title of Miss World Asia 2019 during the beauty pageant after she landed on the third spot in the competition.

From being a Kathak dancer to her work for women empowerment, here are some lesser-known facts about her life. 

Miss India 2019

Suman Ratan Rao's journey started from the year 2018 when she participated in the Miss Navi Mumbai contest and was announced as the first runner-up.

Thereafter, Ratan auditioned for the Miss Rajasthan 2019 contest and won the title. Later on, Suman represented Rajasthan at Miss India 2019 pageant and won the title as well.

Hometown

The 21-year-old's roots come from Rajasthan's Aaidana village which is near Udaipur. She was born on November 23, 1998, and is currently studying to be a chartered accountant.

Suman's father is a jeweller and her mother is a homemaker. Suman and her family moved to Mumbai when she was one-year-old and studied at  Mahatma School of Academics and Sports in Navi Mumbai.

Love for culture

Suman has more than 83 thousand followers on Instagram and she keeps sharing modeling photos on social media. She also shares pictures related to her Rajasthani culture.

Kathak dancer

Suman Rao is a trained Kathak dancer and is an admirer of Deepika Padukone. No surprise here but she aspires to be an actor. Suman is also interested in sports.

Project Pragati

Suman feels immensely about gender equality as she previously took initiatives to help tribal women to realise their dreams through financial independence. 

Her campaign, 'Project Pragati' trains village women to make handlooms, decorative handicrafts, accessories, and jewellery.

These products are sold near the Jaipur City Palace and also through an online website.

Her campaign has also received support from the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation.

She was appreciated at the Miss World forum as she mentioned the same in one of the rounds.
