American football player Colin Kaepernick initiated a protest against New York police brutality. The NFL players took a knee during the national anthem before a game, or stand with arms locked in silent protest.

Los Angeles Clippers players protested silently against owner Donald Sterling. In response to Sterling's comments urging a woman to not bring black people to his team's games.
They ran out of the tunnel wearing their usual warmup uniforms. Then they huddled at center court and tossed the outer layer of their warmups uniforms to the ground. Players also wore a black wristband or armband during the game.

LeBron James is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. Cleveland Cavaliers stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving wore T-shirts with ?I Can?t Breathe? on them during a game at the Brooklyn Nets in support of Eric Garner.
