Virat's 40th ODI century

Indian skipper Virat Kohli hit his career's 40th ODI century.

Kohli's century steered India to a competitive 250 after a middle-order collapse on a dry surface and very tricky pitch but it proved to be just enough in the end as India earned the win with just three balls to spare.

Kohli, who came at number three, smashed 10 fours in his 120-ball knock.

Virat is currently at number second position of all time in on the list of most ODI hundred behind India's Sachin Tendulkar. He is nine centuries away from Sachin's overall ODI centuries record of 49.

Against Australia, it's is Kohli's seventh ODI century. Rohit Sharma also has seven tons in his name against Australia while Sachin has scored nine.

Vijay Shankar's effort with the bat

Vijay Shankar impressed during his 41-ball 46 before being run out when he backed up too far at the non-striker's end to a Kohli straight drive.

With Virat Kohli Shankar added 81 runs for the fourth wicket.

After the match, Kohli praised Shankar's effort with the bat. He said, "He (Shankar) was batting outstandingly well, but was unfortunately run-out. I knew 250+ would be challenging."

Jasprit Bumrah

Pace spearhead and yorker specialist Jasprit Bumrah has proved himself as the best solution in death overs.

A double-strike by Bumrah (2-29) in 46th over, turned the game around for the Indians who ensured there was no let-up in the pressure on the visitors.

Vijay Shankar's last over

Vijay Shankar picked two wickets in the final over to help India win the second ODI.

The Australians needed 11 runs from the last over with two wickets in hand but Shankar, playing only his sixth ODI, kept his nerves to pick a wicket off his first and third balls in the day-night game in Nagpur.

Kohli asked Shankar to bowl the final over ahead of the regular Kuldeep Yadav, and he was rewarded amply for his move.

Team India

The focus remains firmly on the World Cup but India would also be desperate to ensure that a home series does not slip out of their grip and player like Vijay Shankar and Kedar Jadhav are putting in all their efforts to book their place in the World Cup's playing XI.
