Irrfan Khan, one of the most versatile and respected actors of Indian cinema is no more. The actor passed away in Mumbai today. He was 53.

A global star

Irrfan Khan was among the first Indian actors that made a long standing mark in Hollywood. From 'Life of Pi', 'Slumdog Millionaire' to 'Jurassic World', Irrfan weaved magic in his films.

8th Asian Film Awards

Irrfan Khan's filmography boasts of some of the most memorable films that the Indian audience has ever been exposed to. From 'Maqbool' to 'Haider', 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Piku' and several others, Irrfan was known to just casually serenade the audience with his charisma and art.

It's said that Irrfan Khan had said no atleast four times, at different times, to several Hollywood actors and filmmakers for their films including Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan. At one time he couldn't devote the said number of months in the US and in other times, it just couldn't materialise as he wasn't happy with the role he was offered.

Start of a journey

Irrfan Khan's career did not take off overnight as he struggled over the years before making it big. He featured in television serials like Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Banegi Apni Baat and Chandrakanta before he delved into films.

He once rejected Christopher Nolan's film offer

The actor turned down a big role in Christopher Nolan's film 'Interstellar' because he was required to stay in the USA for four months and the was already committed other projects.

How he got his first film

Irrfan Khan was in the final year at NSD, when Mira Nair chose him for 'Salaam Bombay'. His role was cut short because of his tall height.
