IPL 2019: Major takeaways from Chennai vs Delhi match

Chennai beat Delhi by six wickets in their IPL match on Tuesday at Feroz Shah Kotla. 

MS Dhoni-led Chennai team Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi by six wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Tuesday. 

After winning the match, Chennai has gone on top of the points table with four points. 

"The bowlers did a very good job to restrict them to 150," said Chennai skipper MS Dhoni after winning the match. 

The batsmen, we like a bit of pace, and like it to come onto the bat. We look a slightly better side when that happens," he added.  

The young cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who aspire to play for Indian national team, is proving his mettle in the IPL. He working hard to establish that he is an eligible candidate to replace players like Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in Indian squad in future. 

Shaw played at a strike rate of +150 and score 24 runs off 16 balls, gave a good start to the team. 

Rishabh Pant is working hard to boost chances to get a seat in India's England bound plane for the cricket World Cup. 

Today against Chennai's experienced bowlers, he came at number four and scored 25 runs off 13 balls with a strike rate of 192.31 and his innings included two fours one six. 

Playing at Kotla's pitch, where ball stop and spun at the same time, Rishabh played fearlessly and proved that at number four and five, Pant is a destructive batsman. 

In the previous season, Pant was magnificent, scoring 684 with a strike rate of 173.60 including one century and five half-centuries. 

He will look to replicate the same for his team, which has rebranded itself to change their fortunes. 

Despite his abilites to hit runs, can he be a game winner? 

Shikhar Dhawan gave a good start to the team as he scored 51 runs off 47 balls. 

But the middle order batsmen failed to capitalise the start and gave an achievable target for a strong team like Chennai. 

Dwayne Bravo played an important role in Chennai's win against Delhi when the last over made the game evenly poised. 

The situation was intense when Kagiso Rabada delivered three dot balls in the last over including taking a wicket. 

But Bravo eased off the pressure and hit the winning runs on the fourth ball of the last over. 

His bowling was also very economical as he took three important wickets in his four-over spell and gave 33 runs. 

He dismissed Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram's wicket. 

In the ongoing season of Indian Premier League, Delhi boast of their strong bowling unit which includes experienced players like Axar Patel, Rahul Tewatia, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Trent Boult etc. though Boult was on the bench in this match but he is known for his wicket-taking abilities. 

Many batsmen will struggle to score against these bowlers but the way Chennai's opener Shane Watson launched his attack, was remarkable. 

Watson scored 44 runs off 26 balls with a strike rate of 169.23 and his innings included two sixes and three fours. 

Suresh Raina has been a consistent batting option for the "yellow Brigade". He has the ability to turn the match on it heads in one or two overs. 

Raina, who is the overall top scorer in IPL, scored 30 runs off 16 balls, playing with a strike rate of +180. 

Raina completes core team of Chennai. 

MS Dhoni has always stepped up for his team and scored runs whenever required. 

In the match against Delhi, he scored an unbeaten 32 runs off 35 balls. 

During the post-match presentation, Dhoni said, "As a captain, you don't want the XI to push too hard and get injured during the course of the tournament."

"We will be bleeding a few runs but if they can use their experience with bat and ball, it will work out for us. We haven't seen a lot of death (overs) in the last couple of games and the fast bowlers, so plenty of areas to work on, but still a good victory for us," he added.
