In Pics: Highlights of India-China 2nd informal summit in Mamallapuram

From a visit to UNESCO heritage sites at Mamallapuram to one-on-one discussions by the scenic beachside of Tamil Nadu's Kovalam beach, 2nd India-China informal summit was nothing short of eventful. Here are the highlights.

The second and the final day of the second India-China informal summit started with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping holding a one-to-one discussion at the Taj Fisherman's Cove hotel.

Xi was received by Modi at the resort, following which the two headed towards their one-on-one meeting's venue in a golf cart. Their meeting took place in a beautiful setting which faced the sea.

The meeting focussed on finding ways to improve people-to-people contact, enhancing trade and on how to maintain peace and tranquillity along the 3,500-kilometre-long India-China border.

For the second day of the summit, the Prime Minister opted for a Kurta and Pyjama, along with his statement Modi jacket. Xi, on the other hand, wore a black suit without a tie on Saturday, signifying the informal nature of the summit.

Modi had carried out all engagements on the first day of the summit in traditional Tamil attire, including a veshti, white half-sleeved shirt and angvastram.

The prime minister said that last year's informal summit in Wuhan, China "instilled a new momentum and trust in our relations and today's 'Chennai connect' is the start of a new era in India-China relations". 

"The first informal summit between India and China last year in Wuhan led to fresh stability in our relations and gave a fresh momentum," he said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said that on Friday he engaged in candid conversations "like friends" with PM Modi. We held "heart to heart discussions on bilateral relations," Xi said.

"We are really overwhelmed by your hospitality. My colleagues and I have felt that very strongly. This will be a memorable experience for us," President Xi said.

Trade and terror were the top focus on the first day of the second India-China informal summit as leaders of Asia's two largest countries met in the coastal town of Mamallapuram in Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The first day of the informal summit saw, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping spending five hours of "quality time".

PM Modi showed Chinese President thousands of years old UNESCO world heritage sites of Arjuna’s Penance, Krishna's butterball, Panch Rathas and Shore Temple which was followed by a cultural extravaganza that lasted for two hours.
