Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has been re-appointed as head coach of the men's cricket team, a cricket board selection panel announced.

The BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAS), comprising Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shanta Rangaswamy, conducted interviews for the post and unanimously agreed to retain faith in Shastri until the T20 World Cup in India starting October 2021.

Shastri saw off competition from former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh, former team manager Lalchand Rajput, former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, Australian cricket coach Tom Moody and former West Indies coach Phil Simmons.

"Shastri's presentation was about what he did in the last two years and the way forward for the Indian team," Kapil Dev told reporters.

Shastri's name was backed by Indian captain Virat Kohli as he had already made his feelings clear before the tour of West Indies when he said, "The CAC hasn't contacted me yet. If they want my opinion, I'll go and speak to them."

"With Ravi Bhai, we share a great camaraderie, and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven`t been contacted so far," Kohli had added.
