High-profile celebrity weddings amid lockdown: Those who followed the rules and those who didn't

The nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus has crossed over 50 days now. While the government has relaxed a few restrictions, people have still been urged to follow social distancing, wear masks when out in public and not to gather in large crowds. Yet, some high profile weddings seem to have flouted the given rules in the past few weeks. There were some who literally kept the event low-key with limited people are protective masks in place. From former Karnataka CM H Kumaraswamy's son's wedding that saw nearly 100 people in attendance to Don-turned-politician Arun Gawli's daughter's simple wedding at a temple- here's a look at the high-profile weddings that took place amid lockdown.

Arun Gawli's daughter's wedding

Former Don turned politician Arun Gawli's daughter Yogita tied the knot with Marathi actor Akshay Waghmare in a intimate ceremony on May 8 in Gawli's stronghold in Mumbai the Dagdi Chawl.

The wedding was earlier scheduled to take place at a 5-star hotel in Mumbai on March 29 but due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the wedding had to postponed. In attendance were only a select few family members and guests were seeing adhering to the lockdown rules and wore masks.

Actor Nikhil's wedding

Telugu actor Nikhil Siddhartha married his longtime girlfriend Dr Pallavi Varma at a farmhouse in Hyderabad on May 13. The couple were earlier planning to get married in April but had to postpone the wedding amid lockdown.

The couple was keen to postpone the wedding further but the families decided to get the two married and sought permission from the police to organise a small wedding. Pictures of the wedding show guests wearing masks during the wedding ceremony. Sanitizers were handed out as well and the gathering was a small one. They intend to throw a lavish reception once things normalize.

Nikhil Gowda's wedding

Perhaps the most talked about wedding in lockdown was actor-politician Nikhil Gowda's wedding to Revathi. The couple got married on April 17 and photos of the ceremony suggested that the families did not follow social distancing. Son of former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of former PM of India, HD Deve Gowda, Nikhil's wedding was lavish ceremony with 100 guests.

The families had assured that it would be an intimate affair keeping in mind the current situation in the country, yet nearly 100 guests were invited to a farmhouse in the outskirts of Bengaluru and no one wore masks flouting the basic rules that the government has placed.
