Heavy snowfall engulfs Kashmir hitting lives hard

The uncertain weather conditions led to heavy snowfall in Kashmir affecting the normal life in the valley.

The weather conditions in Kashmir had been precarious from the past few days as it had been snowing heavily.

The snow had covered the roads, making it impossible for vehicular movement.

The district administration had sought the chopper services to airlift critically-ill patients from far-flung snowbound areas.

The Indian air force IAF launched special sorties of C17 Globemaster, airlifting a total of 538 persons, including 319 Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) aspirants, between Jammu and Srinagar.

The recent heavy snowfall in Kashmir blocked its road connectivity with the rest of the country. The Jammu-Srinagar national highway were cut off.

Fresh snowfall in the state had triggered several avalanches at different parts of the valley, one of which struck near the Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway killing several persons.

Some places in the district have received as much as five feet snow. 

The Snow and Avalanche Studies Establishment has issued an avalanche warning of varying degrees to 16 of the 22 districts in Jammu and Kashmir
