Happy Hobi Day! Lesser known facts about BTS’ J-Hope on his birthday

BTS’ J-Hope turned a year older as it’s his 29th birthday today and his fans can’t keep calm, obviously. J-Hope's birthday is celebrated as 'Hobi Day', a reference to the nickname given to him by the ARMY. On a special day, we bring you some facts you may not know about your favourite K-Pop band member. 

 

His nicknames

Besides his stage name J-Hope, Jung Hoseok has plenty of other nicknames! BTS bandmates call him Hobi, which is also short for his stage name and fans also like to call him 'ARMY’s Hope.'

Looking at his outstanding dancing skills and the team relies on him for choreography, therefore he's also called 'Team Dance Leader.' He has earned the moniker 'Golden Hyung' for his skills, and everyone also loves to call him 'Seokie.'

Before BTS

Before he joined the K-pop band BTS, he was a member of a street dance team called Neuron. He also auditioned with JYP Entertainment in 2009 and got rejected. As they say, everything works itself out. Later, he ended up working with the talent agency, Big Hit Entertainment. He became the third signee of the boyband after Rap Monster and Jin.

No piercing

Did you know, J-hope is only BTS member who doesn't have his ears pieced. This may confuse many of his fans since, in the past, he had definitely rocked some earrings, but those were just ear cuffs and clip-ons, not actual piercings.

A philanthropist

Apart from his many achievements, he is admired globally for his philanthropy, J-Hope makes regular contributions and has been a member of the Green Noble Club, which recognizes high-value donors of Child Fund Korea since 2018.

Supporting the underprivileged students, in 2019, he donated $90,000 to the organization in support of those attending his high school alma mater in Gwangju. He also donated $135,000 in December 2018 but requested the donation be kept private at the time.

His favourite show

J-Hope is a very emotional person and is a big fan of romantic shows and he loves K-drama 'Crash Landing On You'. Once he said that the love story of a rich heiress and a North Korean soldier was so pure and wished to experience something similar in his personal life.
