Happy birthday Kajol: A look back at her most memorable roles

Our favourite Kajol has turned a year older today on August 5. In her career spanning of three decades, Kajol has carved a niche with her outstanding performances she has delivered, whether it was a comic role or a thriller, Kajol knows how to ace the game with perfection. 

Today, on her 49th birthday, take a look at Kajol's most memorable characters that proved she's one of the most versatile artists.

Priya in Baazigar

Kajol made her debut in 1992 with 'Bekhudi', but she become a well-known face with the 1993 film 'Baazigar', the first film of Kajol and SRK together. In the film, Kajol played the role of a young girl, who falls in love with Khan's character, the killer of her sister. Her performance as a young girl was lauded by the critics, but she faced harsh criticism for her looks. 

The  Abbas–Mustan thriller is one of the most successful films of the '90s.

Simran in DDLJ

After 'Baazigar', the budding stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol once again come together and this time for Aditya Chopra's cult classic movie 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'.

The Bollywood classic film that not only redefined romance for every 90s kid, but also gave Kajol's her most iconic character of Simran. The film tells the story of a shy girl from the conservative Indian family brought up in London and falls in love with a free-spirited boy Raj.

Isha in Gupt

Kajol is known for breaking norms and that's exactly how she made her mark in this industry. From 'Gupt', the 48-year-old star proved that she's not just the pretty heroine, as she played the role of a serial killer in the film. For her outstanding portrayal of an obsessive lover, Kajol becomes the first actress to win a Filmfare award for her negative portrayal.

Sonia & Naina in Dushman

Kajol impressed the audience with her double role in the film 'Dushman'. In the psychological thriller, she played the role of identical twin sisters Sonia & Naina and aced in both roles of shy Naina and extrovert Sonia.

Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain

Rahul, take a chill pill! One of the iconic dialogues from Karan Johar's evergreen movie 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hain' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji.

Talking about Kajol, in the film she played the role of Anjali, the smart, witty and tomboyish with bob-cut hair, who falls in love with her college buddy Rahul but is left heartbroken after knowing Rahul's feelings for Rani's character Tina, whose pretty, beautiful and smart. 

After her heartbreak,  Anjali transforms herself into a shy and grown-up woman with long hair - or we also call an ideal Indian girl. 

So, whether it is Anjali with short hair or long, introvert or extrovert, her performance got an overwhelming response from the masses and made Anjali the most celebrated character of Kajol's glowing career.

Anjali in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum

Kajol again played the role of Angali but this time in Karan Johar's star-studded film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum' and this one was very different from her past role, which we have mentioned above in the list. 

Her role might not be praised by the critics but her character become the audience's favourite in no time and still after decades, it is one of the most memorable roles of Kajol's career.
