From 'Saawariya' to 'Sanju': Tracing Ranbir Kapoor's 13-year Bollywood journey

Its been thirteen years since Ranbir Kapoor's debut. Over the years, Kapoor has given us some memorable performances and several blockbuster hits. Some have been critically acclaimed but box office failures while others have been lauded by fans and critics alike.

Saawariya

Ranbir Kapoor made his Bollywood debut in Sanjay Leela Bansali's movie 'Saawariya'. Although the movie failed miserably at the box office, Ranbir made his mark as the next generation hero.

Bachna Ae Haseeno

Ranbir Kapoor was loved for his character as a playboy in his second movie 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'. The movie performed well at the box office and collected over Rs 36.65 crore at the big screens.

Wake Up Sid

Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma's coming of age drama,' Wake Up Sid' is definitely one of the best written and directed films that youngsters can relate to.The movie  was a critical and commercial success as well.

Raajneeti

'Raajneeti' is another landmark film for Ranbir Kapoor's career. The star-studded movie grossed ₹ 145.5 crores worldwide and was declared a blockbuster. The film was a multi-starrer, yet Ranbir Kapoor's performance stood out.

Rockstar

After 'Rajneeti', Ranbir delivered another blockbuster with Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar'. Kapoor impressed one and all with his performance and became millennials favourite with his terrific performance and cemented his place in Bollywood. The movie approximately collected  Rs 67.86 crore and the actor received numerous awards for his work in the film.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Ranbir Kapoor and his ex Deepika Padukone starred in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' which opened to record-breaking collections and emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of all times. A fun-filled saga of love and friendship is one of the Ranbir's most loved movie. For his acting, Ranbir also won the best actor award at the 59th Filmfare awards.

Besharam

After giving a terrific performance in 'Barfi', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Raajneeti', Ranbir returned to screen with his parents Rishi-Neetu Kapoor in 'Besharam'. Needless to say, the audience had major expectation from this one. But the film failed to impress anyone and was declared as a flop. The Abhinav Kashyap directorial bombed at the box office.

Bombay Velvet

Mounted on a big scale, Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' was touted as an important film in Ranbir Kapoor's career. But the film failed to create any impression, instead was widely discussed for its incoherent storyline. The film which also co-starred Anushka Sharma, sank without any trace at the box office.

Sanju

After giving back to back flops with films like 'Roy', 'Bombay Velvet','Tamasha', Ranbir finally bounced back in 2018 with 'Sanju'.  Kapoor gave a career-defining performance in Raj Kumar Hirani's biopic. The movie smashed box- office records crossing Rs 300 crore in Indian and Rs 500 crore worldwide. The movie earned Ranbir Kapoor the best actor Filmfare award as well.
