From Pochettino to Raul: Potential managers who could replace Zidane in Real Madrid

Real Madrid have suffered consecutive defeats which has put pressure on Zinedine Zidane. Madrid is on the verge of being knocked out of the group stage in the Champions League. However, the damage was limited for Real after Inter Milan won 3-2 away to Gladbach to keep their own hopes alive.

Mauricio Pochettino is the front-runner in the race to replace Zidane. His tenure with the Spurs was successful. Despite no silverware with the London club, he reached the Champions League finals.  

Raul is looked at as Florentino Perez's favourite as he insisted the former striker returned to the club to take over as manager of their reserve team Real Madrid Castilla after spending time as a LaLiga ambassador in the United States. he has had an impressive season with the youth team. 

Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger has always been in contention for a place in Real Madrid. His methods still work and is known for winning Premier League and FA Cups for Arsenal. 

Ernesto Valverde has been unemployed after a poor season as the head coach of a La Liga team, Barcelona. He was sacked and replaced by Quique Setien.  

As per the reports, Valverde's gross salary at Barca was €24 million per year, i.e. €2 million per month. 

His chances of joining rivals Paris Saint Germain are grim, but the Spanish manager was disrespectfully sacked from Barcelona. 

 

Italian Massimiliano Allegri had a successful tenure with Juventus from 2014 to 2019 and he could be asked to manage Paris Saint Germain. Allegri is known for managing many star-studded lineups.  

Zidane won three UEFA Champions League titles and two LaLiga trophies across two spells at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the World Cup-winning former French midfielder decided to part ways again following Real Madrid’s trophyless campaign in 2020-21.
