From Jasprit Bumrah to Kagiso Rabada: A look at five players who might win Purple Cap in IPL 2022

The league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be conducted entirely in the state of Maharashtra across four venues in the city of Mumbai and Pune. While pacers are expected to dominate the proceedings next season, spinners might also come to the party later into the season. Here is a look at the top five contenders for the Purple Cap in IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best pacers in the tournament at present and has been producing consistent performances with the ball for the five-time champions over the years. Known for his lethal yorkers and brutal pace, Bumrah can trouble the best of batters on the pitches of Mumbai and Pune this year and is one of the top contenders to bag the Purple Cap.

The South African pacer was the winner of the Purple Cap in the 2020 edition of the tournament while playing for Delhi Capitals. Rabada had scalped 30 wickets in the season to finish on top of the list of highest wicket-takers. He picked up 15 wickets last season and had a decent campaign in IPL 2021. If the pitches assist pacers, Rabada , who is now part of the Punjab Kings squad, can be a lethal prospect for any batter. He is also among the strongest contenders for the Purple Cap this season.

Avesh picked up 24 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 18.75 and maintained a decent economy of 7.37. He has been bought by Lucknow Super Giants this season, who will rely heavily on the Indian pacer to deliver the goods for the team in their debut season.
 

New Zealand pacer Adam Milne made his IPL debut in 2015 but has failed to get enough opportunities in the tournament so far. However, the Kiwi pacer has a brilliant career record in T20 cricket with 151 wickets in 136 matches. He has pace and can bounce the ball at will. In the absence of Deepak Chahar, who is likely to miss the first couple of seasons due to an injury, Milne will have to shoulder the responsibility of leading CSK's pace attack. With MS Dhoni's guidance and backing, Milne can do wonders for CSK this season.
