Ed Sheeran named UK's Artist of the Decade post global success of 'Shape of You'

Ed Sheeran's incredible list of songs and albums has crowned him the 'UK's Official Number 1 Artist of the Decade' after a meteoric rise to music stardom. 

Global hit

At the start of the decade, Ed Sheeran was a little known albeit highly-rated young 18-year-old boy from Suffolk - but his catalog of achievements since then are genuinely remarkable. Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars.

A Chart Record Breaker

The four-time Grammy Award winner takes the 'Official Chart Record Breaker Award' with the most no. 1 singles and albums as well as spending the most weeks, that is, 79 in the top spot between years 2010 and 2019. 

His chartbuster song 'Shape of You' - which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 in Britain in the year 2017 - was named top song of the past 10 years.

Sheeran debut

Sheeran, now 28, first entered the UK charts in 2011 with debut single 'The A Team'. He has since had eight UK no. 1 singles. His four studio albums each topped the British charts.

Shape of You

His global hit 'Shape of You' topped the Official Charts Company's list of the top 100 biggest songs of the decade, followed by 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson, featuring Bruno Mars.

Sheeran's top album

Ed Sheeran's three songs, 'Shape Of You', 'Thinking Out Loud' and 'Perfect', had made the top 10 of the End-of-The-Decade list.

'Shape Of You' is one of three Sheeran singles in the top five while 'Thinking Out Loud' is at number three and 'Perfect' is at number five.

Albums of the Decade

In the album charts, Adele gained the top positions.  Adele's album's '21' and '25' took the first two spots in the top 100 biggest albums of the decade, as did three of Sheeran's albums 'Multiply', 'Divide' and 'Plus' that made in the top 10 albums.
