Cyclone Nisarga makes landfall in Alibaug with wind speeds of 110-120 kmph

Cyclone Nisarga is fast approaching the northern coast of Maharashtra with a speed of 11 kilometres per hour, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Nisarga has made a landfall as 'severe cyclonic storm' close to Alibag, 94 kms south of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon with a wind speed of 100-110 km/h gusting to 120 km/h.

Wind speeds at 100-110 km/h gusting to 120 km/h along and off Raigad, Mumbai and adjoining areas of Thane. 85-95 km/h gusting to 105 km/h likely along & off Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, remaining areas of Thane & Palghar districts. 60-80 km/h gusting to 90 km/h along & off Valsad & Navsari districts of Gujarat from noon of June 3.

 Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lash Revdanda Beach in Raigad district of Maharashtra as Cyclone Nisarga made a landfall near the district. 

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport witnessed a runway excursion today with FedEx flight 5033 arriving from Bengaluru. The incident occurred when the MD11 aircraft landed on runway 14/32. The aircraft was towed away from the runway and there has been no disruption in flight operations.

In consultation with AAI, considering the strong crosswinds, it has been decided that no arrivals and departures will take place between 14:30-19:00 hrs.

The Indian Coast Guard Region (West) has mobilised eight Disaster Relief Teams for Maharashtra to respond to any requirement of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief arising due to impending landfall of cyclone Nisarga. 

The teams have been placed in Dahanu, Mumbai, Murud Janjira and Ratnagiri. Few teams area also kept in standby at Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Coronavirus-hit Mumbai appeared to escape the worst of Cyclone Nisarga on June 3 as the first severe storm to threaten India's financial capital in more than 70 years left it largely unscathed after ripping roofs off buildings in nearby coastal towns.
