‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri is no more. As the veteran singer-music composer passed away today, here’s looking back at some lesser-known facts about him. From starting his career with a Bengali film ‘Daadu’ and then stepping into Bollywood with a film called ‘Nanha Shikari’, the music industry of India truly lost a gem.

Bappi Lahiri started playing the musical instrument tabla at a very tender age. He was merely three when he picked up the instrument.

While he made it on his own and what a journey it’s been for him, the singer was related to legendary singer Kishore Kumar from his mother's side. So it was in the genes.

Bappi Lahiri’s name is in the Guinness Book of World records for recording over 180 songs for 33 films released during a single year. This was in 1986. He ruled the 80s and the early 90s music scene in India.

Bappi Lahiri's hit song Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja featured in the Hollywood movie ‘You Don't Mess With The Zohan’ starring Adam Sandler which only proves that his music was universal in every right. Also his track ‘Come Closer’ featured in Oscar-nominated film ‘Lion’, starring Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman.
