Asians on Time magazine cover

Since 1927, Time magazine has chosen a man, woman or idea that most influenced the events of that year as 'Person of the Year'. The designation is often considered an honour and treated as an award.

Parveen Babi was the first Indian film star to appear on the cover page of Time magazine titled "Asia's Frenetic Film Scene," in 1976 for the Asia edition. Later she was followed by Aishwarya Rai in 2003, Virendra Sehwag in 2003, Shahrukh Khan in 2004, all were featured in Asia edition of the magazine.

Personalities like Virendra Sehwag (April, 2003) , Sachin Tendulkar in 2012, Manmohan Singh in 2012, Amir Khan who appeared twice; first in 2012 and world edition of 2013 in list of 100 most influential people for his show on Satyameva Jayate, Subhash Chandra Bose in 1938, have also appeared on the cover page of the Time magazine.

In 2016 Priyanka Chopra became the first Bollywood personality who has been on the American and Asia cover at the same time for the time 100 most influential people in the world list. (Image source: content.time.com)

Mahatma Gandhi was the leader of India's independence movement. In 1930, Gandhi received the title crediting to leading a Salt Satyagraha, a 240-mile march to protest the imposition of taxes on salt by the British Raj. (Image source: content.time.com)

Chiang was Premier of the Republic of China at the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937. Soong was a wife of Chiang Kai-shek. Mossadegh was an Iranian politician elected and was a Prime Minister of Iran from 1951 until 1953 when he was overthrown in a coup by the United States CIA and UK's Secret Intelligence Service.

Faisal, King of Saudi Arabia from 1964 to 1975, was acknowledged in the wake of the oil crisis of 1973?1974, caused by Saudi Arabia withdrawing its oil from world markets in protest at Western support for Israel during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.

Dena Xiaoping has received the honour twice in his life, first in 1978 and later in the year of 1985.

Xiaoping was a Chinese politician and a revolutionary, he overthrew Hua Guofeng to assume de facto control over China in 1978, as Paramount Leader.

Khomeini was the leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and becoming the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran and establishing himself as the supreme leader.The 1979 Iranian Revolution overthrew the 2500 years of Persian monarchy and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi the last Shah of Iran. Saudi Arabia's crowned prince Mohammad bin Salman is leading with 19% votes for the TIME magazines "Person of the year" title.

Every year at the end Time magazine holds an online poll for the readers to vote for who they believe to be the "Person of the Year" should be, but it is not necessary that the person who won the poll will become the "Person of The year" instead it is decided by the editors of Times magazine.
