As the Taliban took over Afghanistan over the weekend, the fear of women being tortured, sexually assaulted and forcefully married are returning to the country. Some women are standing up against the inhumane treatment by the Taliban, even though the group is claiming that it will now give rights to women
Sahraa Karimi requested film fraternity to save Afghan women
An Afghan filmmaker Sahraa Karimi, who is also the first female chairperson of the Afghan Film Organisation, penned a letter of appeal to the film fraternity all around the world. Karimi requested people to save the Afghani people, especially women and girls, from the tortures of the Taliban.
"They have massacred our people, they kidnapped many children, they sold girls as child brides to their men, they murdered a woman for her attire, they gauged the eyes of a woman, they tortured and murdered one of our comedians, they murdered one of our historian poets...," she wrote in her letter.

Shabnam Khan Dawran talks about Taliban not letting women work in Afghanistan
Shabnam Dawran, an Afghan female anchor who works for a TV station RTA Pashto, has revealed that she was denied entry into her office citing regime change as a reason. She said that although she was carrying her badge ID and was entering the office during her normal shift hours, she was told to go back home.
"I went to RTA but they told me that the regime has changed. you are not allowed, go home," she said in a video.

Afghanistan's former women's football captain Khalida Popal has now urged her all sports players in Afghanistan to 'burn their kits, delete social media, and erase public identities'
Afghanistan's former women's football captain Khalida Popal also revealed that she is worried about the safety of her team players in the country. She considers herself "privileged" for gaining an asylum in Denmark. She said gunmen are being sent to the houses of the "enemies".
She has now urged her all sports players in Afghanistan to 'burn their kits, delete social media, and erase public identities'.
"Women family members of mine that have been out in the street have either been told to turn round and go home and not go to school or been beaten," she told AFP by phone from Copenhagen.
