Adityanath's anti-pollution plan: Ban garbage burning, implement 'artificial rain'

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday administered the municipal corporations to execute a ban on burning garbage in urban areas. 

With current pollution levels increasing in the national capital, Adityanath has also ordered to develop 'artificial rain' with the help of latest technology in Lucknow, taking Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur on board to carry out the procedure, according to reports. 

He has also directed to install several water sprinklers on roads and execute a ban on burning crop residue, reports said. 

The UP CM has decided to organize campaigns to create awareness on pollution and preventive steps in rural areas through FM and community radio which will run until 15th January. 

Other measures included: suspension of work in about 123 industrial units, cancelled registration of vehicles which are over 10 years old and also fines of over 200 vehicles for violating pollution norms - which were earlier directed by NGT, according to reports. 

The practice of burning of crop residue by farmers of the two states of Punjab and Haryana has been blamed for the toxic smog enveloping the region every winter.

Delhi is said to be the world's most polluted capital according to the WHO, exceeding pollution levels in Beijing.
