'Would love to be in India', says Musk; but something is keeping Tesla away

Undeniably, India would love to have SpaceX CEO Elon Musk set up a Tesla factory here but from his recent tweet, it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. 

Musk on May 26, shared a 'Global map of Tesla Superchargers, including those coming soon'. A user commented on Musk's tweet asking if he plans to bring  Tesla to India to which Musk replied saying that, "some challenging government regulations," are "unfortunately" keeping Tesla away from India.

"Would love to be in India," Musk noted adding that the company's Chief Finance Officer, Deepak Ahuja, hails from India. Musk also added that the fate of Tesla's arrival in India would depend on Ahuja, "Tesla will be there as soon as he believes we should," read his tweet.

Last year, Musk had announced to be in discussions with the Indian government in relation to Tesla. According to reports, Musk had sought a temporary relief on import penalties and other restrictions until a local factory is set up.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that India plans to roll-out electric cars on by 2019. PM Modi-led government aims to infuse the country with 30% battery vehicles by the year 2030.
