Would have been happier if my father were here, Himachal CM-elect Jairam Thakur says before swearing in

Five-time MLA from Seraj, Jairam Thakur will swear-in as the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh today.

While talking to the media he said: "I would have been happier if my father was present today, he passed away a year back. My mother is unwell at the moment but she sends her blessings and that is more than enough for me."

The new Himachal Pradesh chief minister-elect's father died on December 25 last year.

Thakur's wife Sadhana Thakur will be accompanying the leader in the ceremony. She expressed her delight and said: "It is a win for the common man. There are a lot of expectations with this Govt that they will try and solve the problems faced by the public"

The ceremony will be held at the historic Ridge Maidan in Shimla at 11 am. Thousands of supports have started making their way to the venue to celebrate in full swing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah will be attending, as will a number of other BJP leaders.

Elaborate security arrangements are being made for the swearing-in ceremony and Modi is likely to address people at the Ridge.
