Aligarh Muslim University made headlines after a picture of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, was found displayed on its premises. The incident has sparked a controversy.
According to reports, BJP's MP from Aligarh Satish Gautam has written to the university's Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor demanding an explanation on the same.
In his letter, Gautam questioned why was Jinnah's portrait put up in the first place and not of any of the legendary men of the nation?
"I have heard a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah is hung inside the campus. Kindly gather more details on this and give reasons behind it," Gautam enquired.

Meanwhile, the president of the university's students' union retorted that the picture was put up years ago before the partition had taken place. He said that a formal decision will be taken on the matter by the institution if a formal order is given by the government.
AMUSU president Faizul Hassan asked why Jinnah's portrait was not taken down from the Parliament? AMU officials also noted that no lesson on Jinnah is being taught in the university, however, he is revered in the institute.
Jinnah was given a lifetime membership to the university before the partition.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah, also known as Mohammedali Jinnahbhai, was born on 25 December 1876 in present-day Sindh, Pakistan.
He served as the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until Pakistan's independence on 14 August 1947. Jinnah was Pakistan's first Governor-General until his death in 1948.
