Supreme Court on Thursday expressed reservation over the delay in the inauguration of Eastern Corridor.

The apex court said that they were told that Eastern Corridor has been completed and will be inaugurated by the end of April by the prime minister. However, the court said, news reports say PM won't be available tomorrow or the day after to inaugurate.

Accusing the government of merely passing the buck to the PMO, the court asked the authorities why wait for the PM when the government can ask the ASG appearing in this case to inaugurate?

Meghalaya high court has been working for 5 years without formal inauguration, why not same for the eastern corridor? the court asked.

On April 18, SC was informed that Eastern Corridor is ready and will be inaugurated by end of April. The court asked the authorities to inaugurate it by May 31.

If not inaugurated by May 31, Eastern Corridor to be thrown open to the public, the court said then and had added that delays will not be in the interest of the people of Delhi.
