Former president of the Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi said Friday that her party may sometime in the future have a leader from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Replying to a question on whether there was any chance of the Congress being led by an outsider, she replied, "Why not? In future, there may well be."

Sonia however did not answer when she was asked whether the party would survive without a Gandhi as its leader.

Referring to the prime ministership of Dr Manmohan Singh, she said she opted for him in 2004 over herserlf since he was a better candidate for the post.

She also dismissed the popular belief that under the UPA government, the real power was in her hands.

She said that she joined politics after she realised that Congress party was going through a difficult time.

Referring to the Bush and the Clinton families, she also highlighted the political dynasties of the US.
